Nanoparticles We Construct

  • Micelles – effective carriers for hydrophobic APIs; high drug loading; PK modifying
  • Liposomes – bilayer vehicles for solubility or depot/controlled release
  • Polymeric Nanoparticles (PNPs) – tunable; biodegradable; strong IP creation possibilities
  • Lipid Nanoparticles (LNPs): ionizable-lipid systems for select small molecules and peptides; proven record for injectables
  • Emulsions: oil-in-water (O/W); water-in-oil (W/O); macro- and nano-emulsions; versatile for hydrophobic drugs

When Do Nanoparticles Make Sense

  • Hydrophobic APIs that can’t meet target dose via standard excipients alone
  • Need for exposure gains (AUC, Cmax) via retention or release-rate control
  • Tolerability issues when using solvent-based formulations
  • IP  motivations:  prospective white-space for composition of matter claims

FAQ’s

Do you always recommend nanoparticles?

No—if standard excipients & techniques meet goals, we avoid any unnecessary complexity.

Do you prefer using one type of nanoparticle over another?

No—the physiochemical properties of a drug and the desired property of the final drug product dictate our suggestions.

Can nanoparticles be used for topical ophthalmic drugs?

Yes—if the benefits of nanoparticles can be achieved while maintaining the tonicity, clarity, and low irritation needed.

Sterile filtration—is it possible for a nanoparticle product?

Yes—even if a sub-population of particles are above the pore size, a filtration process can be developed.
