My career has been a journey through two distinct but connected worlds: the hands-on reality of R&D and the high-stakes pressure of venture capital. Fundamentally, I am a polymer chemist, driven by a curiosity for how we can engineer new materials and technologies. But after founding a biotech out of grad school, I quickly had to master the language of monthly burn rates, technology transactions and what it takes to secure funding.
That dual perspective is the foundation of my approach at Callan Pharma. The results of my scientific work include co-inventing the Apisolex™ technology and authoring over 30 patents and 23 publications. But my true purpose is to apply both my scientific and business experience to de-risk the development journey for our partners, ensuring their innovative technology is not only scientifically sound but also strategically positioned for success.

Spend 20 years in the lab, and you learn a critical truth: the failures teach you more than the successes. That’s why I’m still at the bench for every partner project, personally guiding the work. I’ve seen promising molecules become unstable, brilliant concepts that proved insoluble and everything in between. It’s from those losses that I’ve forged the insight to build formulations that last.
So, what does that hard-won insight mean for your project? It means we won’t waste time on paths I already know are dead ends. I use that experience to design a robust formulation from first principles, one that is engineered to anticipate and withstand the pressures of development. My purpose is to design a formulation strategy that is engineered to go the distance.
